Wild Elephant Becomes a Viral Meme After Poking Head into Kitchen

INTERNATIONAL: A picture of a wild elephant poking his head into the kitchen of a house in Thailand has spawned a flood of memes around the world. The home-owner found her unexpected guest in the middle of the night, while he was foraging for food. Video shows the elephant extending his trunk to rifle through cupboards and drawers, knocking over dishes. At one point, he picked up what appears to be a plastic bag and placed it in his mouth.

Dozens of memes have now appeared on the internet. Burger King even used it for its latest ad, with the pic being shared over a million times. The iconic picture is now being associated with some famous people too, including Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, being photoshopped in.

Foreign embassies in Bangkok also took the opportunity to promote themselves. The UK used a London double-decker bus to promote its environmental campaign; Australia promoted love-it-or-hate-it Vegemite and Sweden used a picture of one of its footballers to promote EURO 2020.
